RIP Rudy Ray Moore!
March 17, 1937 – October 19, 2008
Moore died Sunday of complications with diabetes. He was 81 years old.
I encourage everyone to toss on one of his records or pop in one of his films in honor of him.
Since the ’60s he’s been inspiring artists of all types, especially comedians, writers, and rappers.
From titty shakin’ to knee slappin’, Rudy was the boss.
When I was 15 I had the pleasure of seeing Dolemite for the first time. An older friend had said to me, “You’ve never seen Dolemite? It’s like Shaft, but good, and all the brothas in the hood know kung fu!”
I bought the tape the following day and I’ve never been the same.
“Man, move over and let me pass before they have to be pullin’ these Hush Puppies out your motha fuckin’ ass!”
