SATURDAY NIGHT!

Saturday, 22nd November – It looks like it’s going to be a big, big show over at the space formally known as Asterisk. Five bands, two DJs, and the unveiling of the venues brand new name! Honestly, the bands playing this show are really fantastic. You’d be a fool to miss this show.

cheap time 785666 SATURDAY NIGHT!Headlining are Tennessee’s own Cheap Time, who play this incredibly catchy and sing-songy form of punk that’s hard to explain. It’s very childish sounding, in a cute and pettable way, but is also harsh and jerky. There are elements of Bay City Rollers, Gary Glitter, Cheap Trick, and The Adverts in their music so you don’t feel like you’re hearing something 100 per cent original, but you’re hearing something executed in a different way that’s attractive to the ear.
I’ve seen them live twice and both shows were insanely high energy and well performed. This band IS the band you want to see.

Why can’t New York have as many great bands as Montreal?
The next band carries the tradition of awesome Quebecer acts. They play loud and fast rock’n'roll music for drunken kids to get excited to. It’s fun. Did I forget to mention they’re called The Nymphets? Enough said.
golden error 790732 SATURDAY NIGHT!
From our home turf of Brooklyn, we have Golden Error. These guys play the kind of punk rock that smart kids who know how to write music and play instruments play. It’s complicated and a little show off at times, but it’s not like listening to Rush or some kind of faggotty math rock, it’s genuinely well written rock’n'roll for the folks that like more aggressive, angular music. Their live shows are great too.
All of the members are fun to watch, but Erick, the singer, is a great front man and knows how to stir up a crowd to keep movement going.

Second on the bill is Black Clouds from Rhode Island. They’re a three piece that sound like an evil marching band. The drummer’s arms and neck look like they could explode blood at any second, while the guitarists bang on vintage equipment. They’re just this primal, pounding beat with growled vocals and screeching guitars. Seeing them live is like drinking a bottle of maple syrup. You’ll grind your teeth, shake around, and afterward you’ll need a nap. Make sure they do their Hawkwind cover.

siberians 795973 SATURDAY NIGHT!Opening the show are The Siberians, another Brooklyn band. This is actually their first show, if you don’t count their last practice which was at the Mr L.E.S. Pageant last week. Who knows how they’ll sound? But you can probably assume it’ll be good once you see who the members are: Todd Spinn(The Spinns & The Gondoliers) on guitar and vocals, Dustin Payseur(Stone Figs) on guitar and vocals, Tommy Gardner(Thee Yetis) on drums, and me(Clean Teens & Monarchy V) on bass. Ok, so I think we’re pretty rad, but don’t take it from me, come see for yourself.

DJing the show is Erick(Golden Error) and Shimmy(Hullabaloo), so you know there is going to be really good music.
Go-Go dancing the show is the lovely Ana Marcella.
Doors are at 8:00, $7. I hear there is a full turkey dinner to get the night started.
Make sure you’re there by nine o’clock to check out Siberians!
