The Vondells feature the always incredible Lynne Von (seen here performing with just their drummer at Lucky Cheng’s).  Some will remember Lynne from Da Willys or the Trick Babys.  Either way, any time Lynne’s up on stage, you’re bound to be entertained.  Not only does she have an amazing voice, but also more stage presence than you’re likely to see all year.  This woman is a true star, even if the rest of the world doesn’t know it.

In addition, there’s The Mess Around.  I first saw this buncha wild garage punksters at the late lamented Magnetic Field and they immediately blew me away.  Seriously a ton of fun and for some reason I’ve missed ‘em way too much of late.

Of course…You can also head across town to – and I can’t believe I’m gonna say this – Kenny’s Castaways for a sorta return-to-CBGB’s, with Frankenstein 3000, Tuff Darts, and The Boyfriends.  Really, though, for me the draw on this one is The Boyfriends, a band that sounded very Heartbreakers right around the same time, especially on their Bomp 45, “I Don’t Want Nobody (I Want You)”.
