Monday

Captain Heartlock and Professor Z return to their usual Monday gig spinning Garage and Soul at the Monday Night Burlesque at Public Assembly. For some reason, they never miss it! Oh yeah!

Tuesday

Thousands of years ago … at the apogee of the greatest of the great empires of Egypt … I bought tickets to go see The Mummies at Maxwells. You have to get in on this sort of thing early, folks. They’re backed by the Back C.C.s, and they are playing two shows, one at 7:30pm and one at 10:30pm.

As an alternative, check out Hot Dog! at Bar Matchless. No cover, 2-for-1 drinks, and the usual hot DJs will not be there so you’ll actually have a chance for once at picking up one of the Gorgeous Hipsters of Greenpoint (GHOGs). Or you might get your kicks dancin’ to Soul, Funk and Latin music at Lost & Found at Savalas. No cover! (That’s the classy way of saying “free”)

Wednesday

The Mummies skip Manhattan* and land in Brooklyn tonight, specifically Southpaw. The Back C.C.s are back as the openers. From what I hear the sound guy has been training on a remote mountaintop in Himalaya for this one.

Check out New York Night Train and their weekly guest DJs spinning Punk and Garage rock at the Motor City Bar, or Mr. Fine Wine as he returns to spin Soul music at his weekly gig at Botanica. Free as always!

Thursday

Now here’s something different: DJ Jumpy will spin surf music at Spoonbill and Sugartown Booksellers. Why isn’t anyone stopping him**? Well, apparently a famous author is giving a presentation on the Beat Generation in the Los Angeles area (thus the beach music, you see). If you would rather rock out to punk, glam and psych rock, check out the Thursday Night Thump at Enids. Or if you prefer to dance to that sweet Soul music then check out Boogaloo Shampoo at Beauty Bar Brooklyn (not the bar or the event on Fridays in Manhattan). What, two Boogaloo Shampoos? They must be franchising! Yes folks, you too can live the American Dream by owning your own business in the burgeoning bailiwick of boogaloo***… of you could just go dance and have fun.

This weekend…

Two shows by the Detriot Cobras, Hullabaloo!, and many, many great local bands. Check out our calendar.

The dead have returned and they’re bringing this town back to life. Yeah. It’s confusing, but somehow it works, trust me.

Marcus

* Ha! (That’s the classy way of saying “neener neener neener”)

** Though I do think that all bookstores should have in-house DJs. Anyone wanna hear my “All Cookbooks 20% Off” mix?

*** My Thesaurus just had a stroke.

**** No dead people were harmed in the making of this blog. We did beat up a yeti though.
