Littleton, NH’s Finest Make Their Last Stand Saturday

Lotsa great stuff to do this weekend in New York but let’s get to the two biggest right off the bat:

First off, Cyril Jordan & Roy Loney backed by the A-Bones revisit their Flamin’ Groovies material in their first show in New York in ages at Brooklyn’s Southpaw tonight. Judging by the backing band and reviews of the group’s performances at Ponderosa Stomp, if you’re a ‘Teenage Head’ Groovies fan, this performance is definitely for you. Whereas if you’re more into the Shake Some Action / late 70′s version of the Groovies, it will be rougher than you remember. Either way, they’re supported by the Underthings and an opening set by the A-Bones. $15, and I don’t think it’s soldout– YET.

Saturday we’ve got another bruiser, most likely even more epic than Friday’s show– “The Death of” LiveFastDie at Williamsburg’s worst (or top 5 worst) venue Rockstar Bar. It’s a Vice Magazine Party (try to “bump into” as many camera geeks as possible) and an open Colt 45 bar for a couple of hours. My understanding is that virtually everyone who’s ever played in LFD will mount the stage for a song or two and that most of the repertoire will be played. So it could take a while! Opening are Golden Triangle. This shit is FREE with RSVP, so click the link, making sure to give them a fake email so they can’t bombard you with advertising for American Apparel or whatever, and see you there.

Here’s a roundup of the rest of the weekend featuring plenty of other fun:

TONIGHT (Friday):
Two Tears (ex-Red Aunts) are at Don Pedro in Brooklyn.

Shakin’ All Over Sideways Down at Home Sweet Home– Toubin’s on tour so we assume he’s got able fill ins to DJ. FREE.

Midnite Till DeathAll Nines (ex-Tunnel of Love), Foster Care, WLWL, plus DJs at Cake Shop. Live music kicks off around 10PM. $1.

TOMORROW (Saturday):

The Othermen, Creepin’ Cadavers at Midnight Monster Hop at Otto’s in the city. Plus DJs. FREE.

The final Chickaboom! party with Melissa-Anne and Jenni at Beauty Bar on Broadway in Brooklyn. Sailor-themed so wear an outfit! FREE.

SUNDAY:

There’s fun to be had in the West Village at the Great Jones where the jukebox will be playing all James Brown tunes from 45s (from King/Federal era to Funk) all night. Plus Nate Shaw’s instrumental trio (in the B3/Jimmy Smith vein) will recreate some classic JB instros. And it’s FREE!

Also the Spines are playing at Otto’s, early show (7:30?). Free we believe.

And Andy Maltz will be nursing his post-Groovies hangover by DJing at Union Pool in Brooklyn. Free.

Stay stupid!
