Monday

DJ Knifefight spins all “pre-Beatles” rock-n-roll at Art Land Bar. Great music, okay bar (conveniently located though, near an L and G train stop). Also, Happy Hour all night and free pool all night. No cover.

Reverend Vince Anderson and the Love Choir continue their gospel-blues residency at Union Pool. It’s a free show which starts late (10:45 now?) Why? Maybe they’re doing confessions for three ours before the show, I dunno.

There may also be a “Children In Heat-MISFITS/CLASSIC PUNK DJ Party” in the back room of Public Assembly, but it seems to have fallen off their calendar sometime over the weekend.

Tuesday

As you might imagine, we recommend checking out Hot Dog! at Bar Matchless on Tuesdays. Featuring DJs spinning 50’s and 60’s R’n'B, Doowop, Gospel, Soul, Funk, Garage Rock, Punk, and more. No cover, 2-for-1 drinks all night, from 8 ’till late.

We would recommend more stuff but we don’t have any more stuff. Send us your shows! Or, if you don’t have any, go out and form a band and then go play some shows. Go on now. We’ll wait. Hey, you know where a lot of musicians hang out? Bar Matchless…

Edit: okay, there’s one show tonight: Golden Triangle are at the Brooklyn Bowl opening for Shonen Knife.

Wednesday

There are no GaragePunk shows tonight (not that I would mind being given tickets for Big Star…). Instead the DJs are out in force tonight, like an army of boogeymen when you turn out the lights.

First you’ve got your Juke Joint Howl at Otto’s Shrunken Head. DJs Mike Mortician and Mike Decay spin Blues, 40s and 50s R&B, and other just-pre-rock-n-roll sounds. Then you’ve got Motor City Bar hosting New York Night Train Wednesdays with punk/rock/hard/loud music all night. And of course there’s Mr. Fine Wine at Botanica spinning his favorite Soul grooves. All three are in Manhattan, and all three are free, and all three will steal your soul and jump up and down on it like an ectoplasmic trampoline (unless you tip your bartenders like we keep telling you to).

We also hear that Jahna Rain (of The Demands) is DJing at The Lamp Post in Jersey City. Not sure what kind of music she’ll be spinning. Anyone want to go check it out and report back?

Thursday

The Reigning Sound play the first of two shows this week at Maxwell’s in New Jersey. The A-Bones are the only listed openers. There might be a third band, you know a “special guest” who is not special enough to actually mention anywhere. The owner’s brother’s band. Anyway, tickets are $12 advance, $14 at the door.

As always there might be someone interesting DJing at Enid’s or elsewhere around town. We’ll update this blog when and if our spies report back to us.

Outside with no shirt
His nipples will freeze and hurt
You sick, sick, bastards
