You’re not worried about the ones who survived?
I am.
Monday
Last day of the month, everyone’s broke, and DJ Knifefight spins all “pre-Beatles” rock-n-roll at Art Land Bar. No cover and free pool. Oh yeah! Starts at 10.
Tuesday
A day which could really use its own promoter. Once again we’ve got Hot Dog! at Bar Matchless featuring DJs spinning 50′s and 60′s R’n'B, Soul, Funk, Garage Rock, Punk, and more. No cover, 2-for-1 drinks all night, from 8 ’till late. Now that you’ve been paid, go out and party!
Wednesday
There are DJs everywhere tonight (and they’re all free!) In Brooklyn you’ll find Living For Kicks at the Satellite Lounge, which is a little late to the whole MySpace thing. DJs Popwell and Bunny Punch spin everything good from the 60s, including Garage, Rocksteady, R&B and Soul. Perhaps more Rocksteady than usual this time since they recently returned from Jamaica. If that’s not your thing, you can go about two blocks to Savalas, where DJ Reverend Vince (that’s Mister DJ Reverend Vince to you!) spins Soul, Gospel and R&B music.
In Manhattan you can head on over to Motor City Bar for New York Night Train Wednesdays, featuring DJs spinning punk/rock/hard stuff all night. Then of course there’s Botanica where Mr. Fine Wine will spin his favorite Soul grooves for you.
Thursday
Ever heard of this band The Queers? They’re at Southpaw tonight with The Leftovers, Tabo and Hollis, all of whom should be getting a lecture from the masters on how to come up with memorable fucking band names.
Detriot power-poppers The Sights are in town for a show at Bruar Falls. We hear that Nouvellas will be performing and that they may have a new song or two. No clue who’s opening.
The calendar is vague this day, like the magic 8-ball. Either Your 33 Black Angels are headlining an album release show at Mercury Lounge tonight, or else 33 black angels are going to be released at the Mercury Lounge tonight. No word on whether it’s “of the Apocalypse” type angels or more of the “Victoria’s Secret” type, but either way they’re going to charge you ten bucks. But on the plus side you get to hear Wakey! Wakey!, Casey Shea and Paperdoll.
If the live music thing is not your thing tonight then check out DJs Mr. Robinson (not a Rev.) and Dos Platos/BamaLama Mike (who may or may not be two people) spinning Soul music at Heathers. I am assured that it will be nothing like the movie.
