Life goes on?

Yeah, it was a real fun Halloween. It’s over now,but the memories and scars will last a lifetime. Also, the head trauma. That will last a lifetime too,but at least it has a nice self-anesthetizing quality.

Monday

Here’s something new: DJ Knifefight spins all “pre-Beatles” rock-n-roll at Art Land Bar on Grand Street in Williamsburg. It looks like they also have free pool and Happy Hour is all night. We may have to go check this out.

Here’s something old: Captain Heartlock and Professor Z are back to spinning Garage and Soul music at Monday Night Burlesque at Public Assembly. Say you’re there for the DJs and you’ll get half-price admission ($5). They also have two-for-one drinks until 9.

Tuesday

First of all, go vote. Once you’ve done that, head on over to Bar Matchless to watch the World Series, or if that’s over, then election night coverage. While there you may also enjoy Hot Dog!, featuring DJs spinning 50’s and 60’s R’n'B, Doowop, Gospel, Soul, Funk, Garage Rock, Punk, and more. No cover, 2-for-1 drinks all night, from 8 ’till late.

Wednesday

Lots of stuff tonight. First of all, there will be a silent auction fundraiser for Bar Matchless bartender Juliet Dostalek at Root Studios (131 North 14th Street in Brooklyn). You may recall that she was in a car accident earlier this year. We know you’re broke, but check it out anyway. The busier it looks, the more pressure to bid high.

Okay, enough with the public service messages… Humboldt Fog brings their fuzz rock sound to (you get one guess…) Don Pedro tonight. They’re playing with (the band) Tight White Jeans, The Hydes, and Brick Mower.

Lotsa places to dance or just hang. In Brooklyn you’ve got your Living For Kicks at the Satellite Lounge with DJs Popwell and Bunny Punch spinning everything good from the 60s, including Garage, Rocksteady, R&B and Soul. Then over in Manhattan at Motor City Bar you’ve got your New York Night Train Wednesdays where they play punk/rock/hard stuff all night. Then of course there’s Botanica where Mr. Fine Wine will spin his favorite Soul grooves for youse. All three are free.

Thursday

At Heathers in Manhattan it’s time for Mr. Robinson, DosPlatos and BamaLama Mike and their monthly 50’s, 60’s and Soul music night. Probably no cover, but we’re not sure.

It’s not on the calendar, but over at Beauty Bar Brooklyn DJ Rev. Vince (of Reverend Vince Anderson and his Love Choir) will spin Gospel, Soul, Disco, Funk and maybe some Hip-Hop. We hope he’ll skip that last one. Perhaps that just means that he can be bribed to play “Baby’s Got Back” (which is to say, he’s broke). You’ll have to ask him. This is also probably free.
