This weekend is on fire
but try to stay focused,
’cause this week is real busy too.
Monday
A couple of free shows tonight. The Studio at Webster Hall hosts a show headlined by The Girls at Dawn. Can’t vouch for the other bands, but it’s free, so just show up late. Speaking of late… The Reverend Vince Anderson‘s residency is still going strong at Union Pool. Starts at 11pm.
Tuesday
This month’s Underclass Revue at Bowery Electric is going a little nuts. The show features psycho-billy from The Arkhams and The Hydes, plus the old-school rock-n-roll of Charlie and the Crybabies. Looks like a $6 cover for this one. Also on the agenda for fans of funk: The London Souls bring their funk/punk sound to Mercury Lounge for a three-week residency starting today. $10 cover for that one (it’s the Mercury Lounge, you see…)
Also on the calendar is a Brooklyn tradition, an institution, a standard of excellence, and many things, but definitely not a surprise… it’s Hot Dog! at Bar Matchless! Featuring DJs spinning Rock-n-Roll, 50′s and 60′s R’n'B, Soul, Funk, Garage Rock, Punk, and more. No cover, 2-for-1 drinks all night, from 8 ’till late.
Wednesday
For the second Copycat of this month The Sweet Ones and Guitar Bomb pay tribute to the music of Neil Young. DJ Xerox and DJ Shimmy (of GaragePunkNYC fame!) spin cover tunes all night. Aside from all the covers, no cover.
Also on the agenda: DJ Reverend Vince spins Soul, Gospel and R&B at Savalas; New York Night Train Wednesdays at Motor City Bar with weekly guest DJs spinning punk, rock, punk rock, and all things loud; and Mr. Fine Wine of WFMU spinning Soul music at Botanica. All three are free.
Thursday
A couple of shows tonight. The Demands play a free, early show at the Lakeside Lounge. The Othermen and The Electric Mess headline a bill over at The Bowery Electric. Let’s call it The “The” Party. The ‘The “The” Party’ cover is $8.
