Yes, I stole this picture of Brownbird Rudy Relic.
Check him out at Bowery Electric on Tuesday.
Sunday
Moving up in the world, local punks German Measles are opening for local more-melodic-and-artsy rockers Vivian Girls at Brooklyn Bowl. That’s a free show ladies and germs, starting at 7pm. Show up early if you want to stand around inside.
Also tonight, a “benefit for cancer” over at Asbury Lanes over in New Jersey. You thought all those Jersey kids were so lumpy because they worked out and/or got siliconed up? Nope, cancer. So sad. The show features the garage-country assault of the Ribeye Brothers. The suggested donation is $10.
Sunday night is for dancing too. DJs Dave The Spazz and Andy Maltz spin their eclectic mix of sounds of the 50s and 60s, soul, garage, oddities and rarities over at Union Pool and DJs Twig The Wonderkid and Michael T spin glam rock and gutter punk at Motor City Bar.
Monday
Not in the mood to nurse your hangover? Then how about checking out The Reverend Vince Anderson at Union Pool. Surely you’ve heard us mention him and his gospel/soul revue before? No cover, starts at 11.
Tuesday
Hey, this looks like a good one. The Bowery Electric hosts a rare New York performance by Brownbird Rudy Relic. He plays the wildest stompin’ “acoustic holler-blues” you’ve ever heard and also goes through a gallon of water per show (true!) Sets by The Othermen and The Dirty Shames will turn your brain blender up to “puree”. $5 cover, starts at 9.
Speaking of brain puree, Hot Dog! is at Bar Matchless on Tuesday. Featuring DJs spinning garage rock, R&B, soul, psych, and more, 2-for-1 drinks all night and no cover. Starts at 10.
