The Choke return to NYC
Monday at the Mercury Lounge.

‘Bout time we had a busy week like this.

Sunday

Right now The Big Ten Inch is at the Bell House. No, it’s not an all-male burlesque show (for once) but rather Phast Phreddie and pals spinning all 78 rpm ten-inch records. But feel free to stick some cash in his undies anyway.

A bit later (7pm) sees the debut of the “Ya Ya Yacht” Rocks Off Cruise. It’s a floating Soul party hosted by Jonathan Toubin of New York Night Train. Liquor will most definitely be available on board.

Infamous wild man Mike Edison and the “Rocket Train Delta Science Micro Arkestra” perform at a spoken word reading in NYC. Really? Well, considering that the reader is Lydia Lynch (of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and DNA) maybe that makes sense. Seeing as how Mr. Edison is also an author perhaps they’ll do some sort of duet reading? What would that be, a round? Tickets are $10, starts at 8.

Too much new stuff? Not sure what to do? Don’t worry, reliable selectors DJs Dave The Spazz and Andy Maltz spin the sounds of the 50s and 60s, soul, garage, oldies and rarities at Union Pool as usual starting at 10pm. No cover.

Monday

After spending six months hiding from the Feds in a warehouse in LA, The Choke return to the NYC scene with a show at Mercury Lounge. They are joined by the Bootblacks from SF (which is also in CA). Starts at 8:30 and tickets are $10.

The Reverend Vince Anderson has not left the building. He and his Love Choir return to Union Pool for a night of Soul and Gospel music. No cover, starts at 11.

Tuesday

It’s a Punk Rock Underclass Revue, featuring S.W.A.K., The Horehound and TCB. The cover is $4 and the show starts at 9.

And of course, what better way to end the my weekly post than to remind you once again about Hot Dog! at Bar Matchless. A selection of DJs from the Hot Dog menagerie spin Garage, Psych, Soul, Rock-n-Roll and whatever else they feel like. No cover, 2-for-1 drinks, starts at 10.
