11 Free! Music! Now!

Hey kidareenos, bored much?

Never fear! There’s a few new, free, and great recordings available for you from New York bands & DJs.  Since we get submissions all the time, we thought we’d share with you… talk about music for a rainy day.

Backdoor Stan has recently emerged with another new band, the Jigglers, who have played a few shows at Don Pedro and the Charleston in Williamsburg, but Stan has also released a little mixtape of tape recordings of his Backdoor Stan/Wild Ass Four material.  It’s called “Backdoor Stan? Not Another one!” and can be downloaded free of charge here.  Stan describes it as “total trash music” but if you like noisy rockabilly & early r’n'b, you’ll probably find something to like.

Brooklyn-based DJ Ursula 1000 has been plying us with his mixes for a while, the name of the most recent one might have drawn your attention– a ‘Garage Punk Primer’... if you’re a diehard garagenik, much of this will be familiar, possibly too familiar but nevertheless it’s hard to argue with a setlist that includes Larry & the Blue Notes and Thee Sixpence (pre-Strawberry Alarm Clock) among others.  Download or stream it from BrooklynRadio.net here.

Lastly but not leastly, one-time NYC area DJ turned Pennsylvania resident and one half of ‘The Thing With Two Heads,’ Bazooka Joe has something for you!  Joe is involved with Slovenly, one of the finest garage labels in the US of A, and they’ve digitized their finest singles for a MP3 mix that’s a real party starter.  All you have to do is sign up for the Slovenly newsletter (something you probably want to do anyway) and you’ll get a 44 track MP3 playlist that will keep you busy for weeks. AND they’ve thrown in an extra 10 bonus tracks from new releases from this year.  The main mix includes everything from a ridiculously novel version of “Down on the Street” as an instrumental with horns to brilliant Reigning Sound, Black Lips and Billy Childish sides to a track by now-NYC area favorite Tunnel of Love.  If you don’t grab this playlist, you simply have no taste.  Or maybe too much taste?  Grab it here.

So how about it chillen?  Got any more free music for us?
