Time Doesn't Stop For Anyone - But She Does Like to Boogie

Hey kids! Happy weekend, and Congratulations on surviving October!  You deserve a cookie! OR a slap on the bum! Hope you’re well rested because the fun don’t stop for nobody: we’ve got a fully stocked cabinet of fun this weekend, and of course NEXT week is the HUGE 25th Anniversay Norton Records Blowout (which we will be EXTENSIVELY covering every night so keep it tuned right here) so you better take your energy pills and keep up!

Oh and don’t forget to set your clocks forward Saturday night! That means ONE WHOLE EXTRA HOUR of SELF DESTRUCTION!

Friday November 4th

THEEE BAT! A wild, psychosexual garage punk trash band from Japan is invading our town for the weekend. First of THREE shows will be tonight: they play the monthly ape hangout Go Go Gorilla at Otto’s Shrunken Head, hosted by the Baxx SiSi kids Kick and Hiromu. They’ll be joined on stage by The Dirty Shames, with our boy Drew as special guest DJ! Dancing and drunk prancing! Starts at 10pm, no cover…

Over in Williamsburg at The Cameo Gallery (inside of the tasty gastro-dive The Loving Cup): The ultra bombastic rock and roll duo The Naked Heroes will be performing  in celebration of the release of their new record AND comic book (!) “Demon the Whiskey Down” on Drug Front Records. They’re joined by the psych pop heavies Weird Owl for an early show that starts at 8pm!

This is the weekend of The International Pop Overthrow, the long running international festival celebrating power pop and garage music. Tonight at Local 269 be sure to catch those dirty beasts from the garage The Beat Rats who headline at midnight. Can’t speak for the other bands on the bill but hey, life is adventure….more on this later

Over in Park Slope, a real cool show at Union Hall, underneath the bocci ball courts: Heavy boogie guitar fuckers The Brought Low play their style of early 70′s style anthemic “day on the river” rock and roll with support from local punks The Live Ones. I suspect doors for this are at 8pm with an $8 cover…

PEOPLE BE SPINNING RECORDS ON A FRIDAY NIGHT, like it’s going out of style or some shit:

Start it out at Manhattan’s branch of The Beauty Bar for To Sir With Love, where CrystalBlu regales the primpers with prime 60′s psych, garage and girl group groovers from 7pm till about 11…

End up at Home Sweet Home for Shakin’ All Over, where Sir Jonathan Toubin teaches those filthy weekend warriors of Manhattan night life all about garage rock and vintage soul music from 11pm till close…$3 bucks to get in with secret password “”THANK YOU MASK MAN” to skip the line. If that ain’t enough: Matt Holywood from The Brian Jonestown Massacre DJ’s in the fancy cocktail lounge upstairs and DJ Phil rocks the happy hour slot from 8pm till Shakin’ time for Metropolis Happy Hour…

Over in Williamsburg: it’s the last hurrah for our pal Your Pal Josh: you may know him as the former drummer of Sorceress and Travelling Circle, but many know him as  one of the genuine nice guys in the rock and roll set! He and his lovely lady Erin (Check out her AMAZING rock show poster art at erinaceous illustration) are leaving our scumfuck city for the hippy pastures of San Francisco, so he’ll be spinning psych, glam and kraut rock records for his farewell party along with DJ It at The Satellite Lounge tonight from 10pm till close…no cover!

Rad Lady Grace of Spades spins soul, doo wop, garage and a lil’ bit o dub at rock and roll bowling alley The Gutter from 10pm on…no cover and real cheap bowling games!

Linda Rizzo keeps the uptown set moving at Ding Dong Lounge on Columbus Ave and 106th Street, rocking psych, soul, garage and funk for a bunch of cuckoos from 10pm till close…
