Happy Weekend, Boys and Girls, we MADE IT! It’s another unseasonably warm one, with a forecast calling for PANDEMONIUM.
TOO MANY choices this weekend, let’s waste no time:
Friday January 27th
It’s HULLABALOO!, the party that puts the “damn” in “Hot Damn”! Tonight’s happening celebrates Brooklyn’s fuzzed out, surfed out, punked out garage punks The Siberians and their debut release, a fantastic 7 inch on Killer Diller Records! They’re performing along with The Enthusiasts and blues/garage power duo The Psyched (Anthony from Tunnel of Love on guitar and Paul from The Apes on drums), with DJ’s Shimmy, Charles Gaskins and guest DJ PickaBar (lead man of The 45 Adapters) spinning cool tunes all night long, baby sugar doll. This is only $6, starts at 9 prompt (bands have gotta be done by midnight)Â and goes down at the new joint The Grand Victory! DO buy that vinyl!
Tonight is night one of the weekend invasion of all time greats of the garage and pride of Detroit Rock City, The Gories: tonight they play at Maxwell’s, and surprisingly as of this writing there are still a few tickets left online! 8pm doors, $20…
Back to Brooklyn, to Bar Matchless in Greenpoint to be precise, for a punk/rockabilly showcase put on by Laura Rebel Angel: Long running psychobilly gang The Tombstone Brawlers headline with performances by the trashy glamo-punk of The TV Tramps and Brooklyn hardcore trio Fake Hooker. Brooklyn Baby Doll will also be on hand to shake what the sweet lord gave her for a couple of burlesque acts and go-go – 8pm doors, $8 cover…
It’s the first Real Gone! of 2012, and it is a scorcher! Host DJ’s KittyBeat and Dr. Jones are joined by New Orleans own Matty (Alligator Chomp Chomp, New Orleans Mod Dance Party) and Josh from The Luxurious Faux Furs, who coincidentally perform live the very same evening and place, headlining (midnight) in the live room in back and preceded by Franco-delic ye-ye stalwarts Les Sans Culottes and loud bluesy garage group Tara Elliot and the Red Velvets! Where esle but at Otto’s Shrunken Head? Party kicks at 10pm and as usual, NO COVER!
And now the section where I tell you about the sixty bajillion other DJ spins:
Josh Styles and Ty Jesso hold it down at Home Sweet Home for Shakin’ All Over Under Sideways Down, where they’re still raising money for Jonathan Toubin! As you’ve all heard the man has made a miraculous recovery from an unbelievable accident, but he still has significant hurdles to jump, so jump and jive and drink for LIFE! Those two are on from 11pm till close ($3 cover), with Metropolis Happy Hour from 8pm till then…
La La Linda is getting Fast Loose and Loud up at The Ding Dong Lounge on the upper west side, playing a booty shaking mix (which is FAR SUPERIOR to a wintery mix, whatever that is) of punk, funk, psych, garage, and anything else she damn well pleases! 10pm till close and free as your will…
CrystalBlu starts your night out right at Beauty Bar on 14th Street and 3rd with her weekly happy hour spin To Sir With Love, playing surf, girl groups, psych and garage from 7pm till 11, great soundtrack for gettin’ your nails did…
Handsome devils Tony and Cowboy Mark bring 50′s R&B and grease to the otherwise refined dining establishment The Bedford (guess the neighborhood! Hint, it’s in Brooklyn!) – they’re on from 10pm till about 1 or so…free!
It’s another thrilling edition of The Discophonic Walk, taking place at what I like to call “Chicken Trouble Palace”, IE the Commodore. Phast Phreddie and Girl Soul are joined by special guest and Empire State Soul Club founder Connie T Empress in playing unimpeachable soul and r&b 45′s all night long from 10pm on! No cover…
Saturday January 28th
The big show of the evening is of course The Gories at The Bell House! This powerhouse of a bill is recommended for children 21 years and older with strong constitutions, with supporting acts Mark Sultan and Brooklyn’s own Mighty Fine! Mary Clancey and Sterling (Heavy Hands) rock the turntables, bringing the people all the garage and soul they can get down with. Tickets are $20 for this one with 8pm doors…
A few blocks away at the soon to disappear (TRULY SAD) Southpaw is what I’m guessing will be the last edition at this venue of Dig Deeper, showcasing 60′s Northern Soul legend Eula Cooper! She’s on at 10pm, with DJ’s Honky and Mr. Robinson spinning the dance party on and on into the sweet night. $12 advance online, $15 at the door!

An epic Glitter / 50′s Rocker party goes down over at Zebulon in Williamsburg: Le Crunch has got Josh Styles, Sophie Thunder, Ty Jesso and Dave Ready spinning glam rock classics and greaser hits all night, with live performances by The Foxx, Alana Amram and Baby Shakes! Blast off is at 9pm, $5 cover…
DJ C’Mon continues the good fight against Manhattan mediocrity at her spin The Saturday Takeover at East Village bourbon lover’s palce Idle Hands, where she drops retro rock n roll, garage, punk and new indie rock that rocks…no cover, 10pm till close!
Is that all that there is? Cause that’s actually A LOT. But if we’re missing anything of note, be sure to clickity click that box and leave a comment and let us all know, okay? OKAY!
UPDATE: Born Loose play the one year anniversary of new management at Brooklyn’s DON PEDRO with the Nuclears and Idlettes. $?
Have fun, stay safe, keep your noses clean, don’t be a machine, live the dream…Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Captain Heartlock
