I’m a longtime fan of Jersey City’s own WFMU…
The best freeform station in the nation. So it was pretty damn awesome to finally visit the famous studios where my favorite shows like Downtown Soulville, Cherry Blossom Clinic and of course Joe Belock’s Three Chord Monte are recorded…
I got an opportunity this past Sunday when the Siberians went in to tape a live session for Joe’s show. If you’ve never been there, the station is just a couple minutes’ stroll from the Exchange Place PATH. In other words, if you’ve got a DJ you want to stalk, it’s REALLY convenient.
The Siberians recorded on the 4th floor (where all the bands record pretty much)…
I watched from the booth.
Mike Sin (formerly of the Insomniacs) engineered the session.
You can see him and Joe Belock briefly in the video:

After the session, Joe took us on a tour of the 2nd floor, where there’s another recording studio.
Bill Kelly was doing his show live and we also checked out the mouth-watering WFMU library.
I never knew about WFMU’s collection of awesome velvet paintings… Phil was a particular favorite… !
After the show, I took a few band photos on the waterfront.
Come check out the Siberians this Friday– January 21 @ Grand Victory. Their new 7″ is being released. Huzzah!
