Here We Come A Leapin’ and A Humpin’!

A little bit you, a little bit me, a lot of smoke

Jump 1 229x300 Here We Come A Leapin and A Humpin!

Whudup, creeps!

It’s a very special edition of your midweek blog, seeing as how this humpday also happens to be LEAP DAY! Once every four years the magical number 29 appears at the end of the month of February and someone has a sad lonely ass birthday party where they pretend they’re five years old…but the real magic is the LEAP DAY fairy! She comes to you before sunrise while you’re sleeping and steals your socks and MAGICALLY turns them into anxiety!  We also celebrate today by  eating tiny cakes shaped like chicken kidneys and telling our grandparents that we are sorry our parents were born because we’re sorry that we were born! ALSO! Anything you do today doesn’t count, so you can act like a complete asshole and get away with it! Try it! Walk up to a cop and punch him in the balls, and then smile and yell “LA LA LA LA LEAP YEAR!” And he’ll have to let you go, with a chuckle. “Oh LEAPIN’ LIZARDS, you got me!” , he’ll say. It is truly the most wonderful day of the year. ALL HAIL THE LEAP FAIRY!

Because this is a city filled with abortion loving homosexual pagans, there is an ABNORMAL amount of stuff going on this week to celebrate.

Seriously, today’s post is reading like a weekend! Without further ado…

Thursday March 1st

March comes in like a Lion on crystal meth with FIVE bad ass live shows to choose from this evening:

Start this mother off CORRECT with the first of four weekend explosions by the visiting legend of New Orleans blues, Guitar Lightnin’ Lee and his Thunder Band, performing at The Lakeside Lounge at approximately 7pm! No cover, but fill this mans bucket!

Speaking of those masters of  the “dying to get born” tradition of the blues, the great Brownbird Rudy Relic kicks off a monthly residency at the storied Sidewalk Cafe of Avenue A! Celebrating his 10th year of performance, you can catch him three Thursday night for the month of March, where tonight he’s accompanied by (starting at 8pm prompt) Tito Deler, a “surprise” guest at 9pm, Ferral Foster at 10pm and the man himself closing out the night at 11…

ANOTHER hot loud and wild show at the Cakeshop tonight, with chaos presented by In The Red signed bands on the road The Spits and TV Ghost, Jersey punks Night Birds and Eric Davidson’s band The Livids! Heavy, mom! Our boy Drew Redmond DJ’s between and after the sets. 8pm doors, $12 cover!

On the Brooklyn side of the fury: 285 Kent plays host to a bunch of interesting and neo-psych bands: reverby experimentalists Woodsman, trippy folk rockers Alex Bleeker and The Freaks, Flower Orgy and headlined by the great and crazy Liquor Store! $8 dollars, 8pm start, ALL AGES show!

Imagine that, a crazy punk show at Don Pedro: Fast, primitive punk bands Low Fat Getting High, Nuclear Santa Claust, The Amputees, The Black Black, and Suaka perform and rattle bones. I believe the cover is 5pm and you can expect the first band a little after 8pm…don’t know what the cover is, $6????

At Heather’s in the city, check out Mr. Robinson and BamaLama Mike for their monthly affair of sweet soul and R&B from the 50′s and 60′s being spun for victory. They start around 8pm and there ain’t no cover to be found…

Move Your Mule is in full effect at Otto’s Shurnken Head, with Agent Jay, Bunny Punch and friends dropping roots and dub reggae, some ska, some punk, and some old old soul from 10pm till close, never a cover at tiki heaven…
