Friday April 27th

Tonight is almost EXCLUSIVELY DJ action as there’s not much live to post about as of press time. DANCE YOURSELF across the boroughs, I dare you!

Of course the big paisley covered elephant of the room is the 10th anniversary party for  Smashed!Blocked! It’s been about a year since the farewell to this Friday night institution, so expect a big coming out tonight at Beauty Bar for Josh Styles and Peppermint Twist with guests Dirty Dan and Sheila B and their all-vinyl dance floor filling selections of psych, garage, girl group and R&B, with Go-Go action by Anna CopaCabana and Kips Ahoy. Should be a wild one! 10pm till close, no cover…

There’s likely no chicken to be had, but don’t let that deter you from Finger Lickin’ Friday at Grand Victory in Williamsburg. Charles Gaskins and Drew Redmond spin garagepunk, surf and r&b 45′s from11pm till close, with all kinds of other stimulation including racist blow up dolls, pinatas filled with bacon flavored condoms (am I making that up? ) and bad girl a go-go Brooklyn Baby Doll wiggling around in next to nothing. No cover!

Tonight’s a real fine lineup for the one two punch that is Metropolis Happy Hour / Shakin’ All Over Under Sideways Down: Charly Himmel has got you covered head to toe in fun (see her for drink deals behind the dj booth!) from 8pm till 11, while Howie Pyro, Mr. Finewine, and a VERY special guest take you home from 11pm – close with a $3 cover after 11…

Old school surf rockers The Moto Gators perform for the last time ever at their favorite haunt and sadly closing East Village institution Lakeside Lounge around 11pm tonight. Pay your respects, wipe out…

Uptown at The Ding Dong Lounge is La La Linda providing the safeplace for all the miscreants and rock and roll debutantes, spinning garage, psych, funk and soul all night from 10pm till 4am, with deviant undergound projections by VJ Linear Regression! No cover…

Phast Phreddie and guests Girlsoul and Lil’ Stark bring retro international sounds, bossa, spacelounge, organ jazz and more to Zebulon for Let’s Boogaloo…the grooviness starts at 10 and goes on into the night, with no cover…

Lastly for the evening, Bushwick Ronnie (aka Mr. Vacation) drops by St. Maize (345 Grand St. btw. Marcy and Havemeyer in Williamsburg) for late night spins of South American psych, garage, Brazillian and heavy stoner moves from 11pm till 3am…get it!

Saturday April 28th

Saturday fun starts in the afternoon, with a matinee performance of the seminal Rolling Stones album Some Girls, performed in it’s entirety from 4pm to 6pm and by a super group called Bang Bang Bowery, featuring lead vox by some of New York’s finest on the scene, including David Patillo (The Dead Exs), Daddy Long Lets, Nick Vivid and many, many more. Taking place at Riff, located at 313 Bowery, New York Citay, bay-bay…

And back to the dark of night…

Josh Styles is at it again for the second night in a row, this time at his semi regular party Le Crunch with the lovely Sophie Thunder where they spin glam, glitter and 50′s rock and roll all night! They have curated live performances by Fabric, Games and the mighty Baxx SiSi’s! This happens at Zebulon and begins at 9pm, with I BELIEVE a $5 cover…

It’s Thee Midnight Monster Hop at Otto’s Shrunken Head! This month Mike Mortician is joined by Howie Pyro, spinning nothing but the TRASHIEST of trash – garage, psychobilly, weirdo R&B, voodoo magic – with live performances by psychobilly group Koeftes Quiff…starts at 10, never a cover…

It’s the return of premium dub / classic reggae party Another Scorcher, at their new home, downtown Brooklyn’s  Last Exit! Hosts and DJ’s Lee Gemini, Phil Templar and their guests Pick-a-Bar and Jonny Quest spin nothing but 45′s of the finest retro reggae, rocksteady and soul, DEEP cuts! No cover, 10pm till close…
