Hot, Viscious, and Very Superstitious

A little bit you, a little bit me, a lot of smoke

13 Lucky Babe 228x300 Hot, Viscious, and Very Superstitious

You're Doing it Right, Babe...

Happy Friday the 13th, you lucky devils!

Clearly rock and rollers are not a cowardly and superstitious lot, as it’s another big weekend of amazing action tonight, tomorrow, and even Sunday (which our intrepid blond bomber Drew Redmond will cover)…so suck on a rabbit’s toes and tempt your fate in the following ways:

Friday April 13th

So! You were one of the bajillions of people who tried and failed to get Kraftwerk tickets at the MOMA, and you bitched about it on Gawker and your Facebook wall! Boo hoo, cry cry baby ! If you’re smart you’ll go to circus training ground of the underground stars Big Sky Works in the northenmost part of Williamsburg BK for KRAFTJERKS: You Are Waiting In The Queue. This is the final night of a 2 evening odyssey of sound. The albums Man Machine, Computer World and Technopop will be performed live by local luminaries such as Ana Copacabana, Joe McGinty, Mike McGinnis and more, with mind blowing three wall light show by B.A Miale, arial acrobatics by a sprite named T*Pow, and pre-recorded sounds between groups and into the night by none other than Ursula 1000. I was at last night’s jam and I can personally vouch for it’s luminosity. Highly recommended. $10 cover and 9pm doors…

Friday night is alright for lighting up – punk rock nut show at Bar Matchless courtesy of The Underclass Revue! It’s a record release shindig for The Disconnects - an amped up four piece from Neptune City NJ – celebrating the release of their split 7 inch with punk duo Crazy and the Brains on Baldy Longhair Records. They’re joined by The Enthusiasts, The Urgencies and solo performance by Tommy Volume (The Star Spangles). Word is there will be some kind of giveaway / raffle thing going on, if that was enough looney juice for your $7 cover…I believe doors are at 8pm…

Park Slope bocce ball palace Union Hall hosts a bill featuring the mighty Muck and The Mires, supported by Party Lights and The Liza Colby Sound, a band fronted by a fearsome wild haired front lady with a band that’s an eclectic mix of old blues, garage rock and classic-rock rock. Tony LoFi spins all kinds of cool kid 45′s before and between sets…This one kicks off at 8pm and will be done by midnight so don’t sleep. $10 cover.

It’s another wild Friday at Home Sweet Home – our boy Drew Redmond commands Metropolis Vintage Happy Hour from 8pm till 11pm, spinning all the fresh trash he picked up at that crazy cult record fair in the middle of bumblefuck PA – see him about drinky deals and tug on his nose hairs! Josh Styles takes over with girl group, freak beat and garage goodness for Shakin’ All Over Under Sideways Down from 11pm till close ($3 cover)…freaking out the straights one popped collar at a time. Won’t you help them?

CrystalBlu has got your beautiful happy  hour covered at Beauty Bar on 14th Street in the city, spinning soaring psychedelia, surf, and garage from 7pm till 11, no cover…

Back in the BK, Phast Phreddie – The Boogaloo Omnibus -presents another edition of his experiment in sonic mentalism and high fidelity living, Dynagroove – the man spins frenzied organ jazz, space lounge, cha cha and other stuff that we once thought UFO bachelors from the future would be listening to, joined by none other than WFMU DJ Gaylord Fields. This goes down, as per usual, at Teddy’s in Williamsburg from 9pm till around 2am…no cover!

La La Linda invites one and all to Get Lucky at The Ding Dong Lounge, where from 10pm till close she’ll be spinning all the shit that makes for a true charm, namely groovy psych, garage punk, soul and ass moving funk! Get down, uptown! No cover.

Saturday April 14th

The live show of the night is at the trouble palace, Don Pedro! This is a wild and trashy one, an invasion from Slovenly Records: Kicking off at 9pm prompt with local jungle gym party pants band The Othermen , Baltimore MD’s Hollywood, Paint Fumes and San Juan PR garage giants Los Vigilantes. Eric Davidson (Livids, The New Bomb Turks) DJ’s in between and through the night (and joins The Othermen on a couple of songs, to boot!) $8 cover, kiddos!

Speaking of returns: The Electric Mess, on the verge of releasing a new full length LP, appear as support for heavy paisley psych band Laughing Sky at the mysterious, underground location The Red Door – a speakeasy decked out in insane 60′s LSD glory and owned by none other than Giorgio Gomelsky, former manger of the Rolling Stones and the Pretty Things! You’d totally miss the joint if you walked by it (and many of you do every day), but it’s located at 140 W 24th St between 6th and 7th Avenues…this thing is FREE on top of it all…

Hey girl, you wanna dance? Head thee to Grand Victory after 11pm for Soul a Go Go! The man with the killer moves Jumpy and his partner Big Sir spin all 45′s all night of unstoppable R&B and 60′s Soul floor fillers and rump shakers all night. It’s fast fun and best of all free to get in, so don’t you stand there against the wall being all cool and shit…move!

Rounding it up, if you’re in the East Village on a Saturday Night your best bet is Idle Hands, with their big bourbon selection and the sounds of DJ C’Mon, playing choice cuts of garage, power pop and punk from 10pm till close…It’s The Saturday Takeover, and it’s’ alright! No cover!

In case we’ve missed something, let us know in the comments and we’ll make it right, I promise you baby.

Stay Cosmic,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Captain Heartlock
