Iggy Isn’t Sick! Let’s Party!

april fools Iggy Isnt Sick! Lets Party!
Some of you (hell, many of you, judging by the FB comments) were mildly to grossly appalled by our own Drew Redmond’s April Fool‘s Day joke the other day.

Just in case you’re still wondering– Iggy isn’t really sick, except in the “that dude is SICK!” kind of way.

Yeah, so… let’s celebrate! You have many ways to do it on today & tomorrow.
(and lighten up, willyaz?)

TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY):

If you’ve got $75 for a good cause AND like Andy Warhol, there’s a possibly interesting party starting at 6PM at Safe Harbor in Soho called ‘Figment’.  DJs Shakey (she of many a record fair and other events) and Small Change will be throwing down “velvety undertones” while artworks are created, the place is covered with tinfoil, etc.  It’s for a non-profit, which means you can look at nude pictures of Lou Reed whilst eating a “full flight” of food and deduct it from your taxes!

On to the night time, when every DJ ever is doing something, somewhere.  Almost.

Here’s a list:

  • DJ Tony LoFi does his night called One Chord Progression at Abilene on Court Street in Brooklyn.  OCP is a new tumblr/blog where they’re giving away some tickets to shows and interviewing local cool dudes such as Dean Rispler. FREE
  • Matt Fiveash of the Piggies (and an occasional WFMU fill-in) does his monthly night at Daddy’s on Graham Avenue in Williamsburg. Expect r’n'b and rock’n'roll 45s all night. FREE
  • Matt Hollywood of the Brian Jonestown Massacre is at Local 138 (yep it’s really called that) at 138 Ludlow. FREE
  • Mr Fine Wine rolls on at Botanica with more soul & r’n'b 45s. FREE

And if you happen to be in Jersey, or feel like hitchin’ the PATH over, check out Nashville’s Natural Child tonight at Maxwell’s.  Killer live show and their new album with a picture of a big butt on the cover (no, really) drop on Burger Records 4/20 (yeah buddy). only $5!

THURSDAY:

Probably the best kept DJ gig secret in the rock’n'soul world happens once again at Heathers on e 13th street. BamaLama/Dos Platos Mike and Guest DJ “You hate me because I fooled you” Drew Redmond spin all that shit I can’t afford from the Allentown Record Fair. Kick them for me. FREE

Over at Otto’s, expect Bunny Punch to pull out more recently acquired vinyl from a trip to Milwaukee, Ohio and PA recently– those hotbeds of reggae records. Move Your Mule is in effect from 10PM. FREE
