Move On, Midweek

A little bit you, a little bit me, a lot of smoke

record of doom 300x246 Move On, Midweek

Just another manic Wednesday in Gotham. Oh Hump Day, how shall we conquer thee?

Wednesday April 18th

Turtleneck: A Retro Futuristic Playground is the party that celebrates the sounds of 60′s spy movies, international beats, bossa nova, space lounge and movie soundtrack weirdness…tonight is a very special edition, as host Xerox is joined by a bevvy of guest DJ’s: Basically the entire GaragePunk NYC staff (yours truly, Shimmy and Drew), Hadnsome Van Zandt and Phast Phreddie the Boogaloo Omnibus! It’s gonna be the sonic equivalent of a make out session on Mars. Going down at Otto’s Shrunken Head! No cover, 10pm till very late.

Tony Lo-Fi is spinning records tonight at Don Pedro of the soul, garage, powerpop, punk and jazz variety! It’s One Chord Progression, which also happens to be the name of his own upcoming rock and roll blog. No cover, 9pm!

Irie Vibes, Roots Reggae, Cheap Beer, 50 Cent Wings…sounds like the times to me! All this and more at Watch This Sound at Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Stable, brought to you by your hosts and DJ’s Grace of Spades, Sweet V and Bats…9pm, no cover…

As he does every Wednesday, Mr. Fine Wine is throwing down the sickest selection of 60′s soul and R&B 45′s this side of Soulville on his long running weekly spin at Botanica! 10pm till late, no cover…

Matt Hollywood (of The Brian Jonestown Massacre) spins wild rock records at Local 138, a Ludlow street dive, from 10pm on, also no cover…

I have no idea who is on call, but presume on cool sounds from DJ’s at both Motor City and St. Jerome this evening. If you’re into that kind of thing.

Thursday April 18th

Big ghirda-like monster of a show tonight at Cakeshop, as those fuzz rock ginger kids White Mystery continue their tear across our fair city! Tonight they are supported by (almost) all girl old school punk band Gone Bad, rock and roll party ninjas The Othermen and electric boogie blues duo The Dead Exs! Our boy Drew Redmond DJ’s inbetween bands and into the night. Might have to call in sick Friday…8pm doors, $8 bones to get in!

DJ InBetween’s semi regular happening, 7 Inches and a Hole is tonight at Last Exit (136 Atlantic Avenue – I’ve always wondered is that still Park Slope or is it Brooklyn Heights? ANYWAY…) – the man comes to town with sick selections of fuzzed out garage, psych, soul, and assorted weirdness you’ll not likely hear elsewhere. 9pm till late, no cover!

Dub, ska and roots reggae are always on order for Move Your Mule at Otto’s Shrunken Head. Agent Jay, Bunny Punch and friends are joined by special guests Dj 100 DBS (Oficial Slackers Dj) and Dj Too Much (Eat Records/EVR). 10pm till close, No Cover!

That’s it till the weekend…check back Friday, for Lord Shimmy will update you, verily!

Cowabunga,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Captain Heartlock
