It’s a bit slow this midweek, a rather yawny end to a pretty awesome June. Â Never fear though, we’ve dug up a couple of possibilities to rock.
TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY):
At Otto’s Shrunken Head, it’s time once again for Copycat’s annual tribute to DEVO, which coincides neatly with founder/DJ Xerox’s birthday. Â Every year bands that probably shouldn’t ever cover DEVO do so anyway, and generally it’s pretty awesome. Â This year the bands include three I’m totally unfamiliar with: Lex Loser, Girl to Gorilla and Goodbye Bikini Island. Â Guest DJ Omega gets in on the action while you down $5 Pink Pussycat cocktails. Â All this is free and BONUS– if you’re one of the first folks there, you even get your own free jumpsuit!
UPDATE: here’s a good one we missed at Brooklyn Bowl with the Sadies, Jay Vons and DJ Jonathan Toubin.. $?
Way the fuck out there at Goodbye Blue Monday in Ridgewick, it’s another show for Australian hustler/possibly illegal immigrants Bone and Dozers. Haven’t seen either but I believe we’re talking good ol’ noisy punk. FREE.
Elsewhere it is mostly the yoozh in terms of DJ nights:
Mr Fine Wine at Botanica is joined by Brad Hale of People’s Records (Detroit) tonight; both spinning r&b and soul 45s and Grace of Spades with her reggae/dancehall night at Brooklyn Stable off the Lorimer L.
THURSDAY:
Back to Otto’s! It’s Move Your Mule, skankin’ up the joint every Thursday for a while now with your selectors Lil’ Jerk and Agent Jay among others. FREE
One special DJ night tonight at Greenpoint’s Manhattan Inn, home of various “piano men” and the occasional DJ throwdown. Brad of People’s Records (Detroit) will share the wheels of steel with Mick Collins and Ambassador Hazy (of Heavy Hands/Hot Dog!). FREE
That’s all folks!
