Hey Kitten Babies! How YOU doin’?
Monday is gone and Friday has yet to be written. Dry your eyes and wiggle your toes.
I bring you…THE MIDWEEK ROUND UP
Wednesday July 11th *(MERRY SLURPEE DAY. ADD VODKA ACCORDINGLY)*
Could this be the first bad motherf**er outdoor jam of the summer? I declare it so. Absolute LEGEND of the blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Buddy Guy and the father of every British guitarist to come off the island John Mayall are performing for FREE, early this evening in the financial district at World Financial Center Plaza (220 Vesey Street between North End Ave. and West St.) 6:30 pm till about 9, and I repeat, FREE. Go get your spot!
Everybody’s favorite dirty loons Foster Care are on a rampage: hot new record, articles in Vice and The Village Voice, and NOW they are about to embark on a tour of the nation. Let’s send them off right tonight at Legion in Williamsburg, where they are sure to tear that joint a new face hole. They are joined by their mates Pampers and it’s a $3 cover, leaving you enough money for White Castles from the greasy fortress right across the street from the bar. 9pm blast off…
The rest of Wednesday is the the weekly jams:
- Mr. Fine Wine with his unassailable selections of 60′s soul and R&B records at Botanica, 9pm – 2am…
- Grace of Spades and company for the dub reggae and dancehall sounds of her weekly Watch this Sound at Brooklyn Stable, 9pm till close
- Matt Hollywood and his jam Jump & Shout! at Ludlow Street’s Local 138
- Rotating cast of punk and soul DJ’s at Motor City and at St. Jerome
All this goodness is free like the wind…
Thursday July 11th
Tonight at Union Pool, it’s the long awaited release party for The Nouvellas record! As if you ever need a good excuse to bathe in their sweet soul and Motown pop sound, this will be the band’s last show for some time, as singer Jaime is about to embark on motherhood. It’s a stacked bill of support tonight with performances by Daddy Long Legs, Minerva Lions, Nicole Atkins and The Fletcher C. Johnson Band…Josh Styles DJ’s between bands! $8 cover, 8pm doors…
The more literary set – well, at least the literary set that likes their lit stained with blow, whisky, sex and crazy – should check out the book launch party for The Official Book of Sex, Drugs, & Rock ‘n’ Roll Lists, by Judy McGuire (Author of weekly sex advice column “Date Girl”, a former High Times editor and co host of The Mike & Judy Show) with illustrations by the great rock and roll comic illustrator Cliff Mott. According to the press release it sure sounds like a doozy… this goes down at The PowerHouse Arena (37 Main Street at the corner of Water Street)…starts at 7pm and it’s free but RSVP is suggested (rsvp@powerHouseArena.com)…drinks will be served, as is only right and proper…
Over at new Bushwick Brooklyn DIY space The Paper Box (17 Meadow Street at Waterbury), there’s a real hodgepodge of a show going down…thrill to the exploits of bands as wild and diverse as Your 33 Black Angels, Discovery, Bachslider, Apollo Heights and my own Madam Robot and the Lust Brigade from 8pm on…two stages and a lovely outdoor space, $7 cover…
As always, Thursday nights are in the loving control of the Move Your Mule party at Otto’s Shrunken Head, where Agent Jay and friends rock ska, rub-a-dub reggae and Rock Steady all night from 10pm on…never a cover.
There you go, children! That should set you up quite nicely for what is looking to be another killer weekend…I’ll leave that for Shimmy to report to you Friday afternoon in the weekend post. Check out our calendar and send us your shows!
Namaste,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Heartlock
