Dreams Getting Better 300x188 That Time When It All Gets So Hazy

What it is, people! Another fine weekend in the wicked citadel, in the twilight of the Summer, with more choices for enjoyment, mirth and sin than you can shake a weeping willow at…

Friday August 10th

This weekend, the Italian psych rock sensations Sultan Bathery invade our town for the first time ever, supporting a brand new 7″ inch on Slovenly Records. First night of three shows (check back here for a SUNDAY meltdown!) happens at Grand Victory for the latest edition of Rockerville, where they are supported by heavy label mates The Psyched and opening act, experimental/shoegaze husband and wife duo Ekra. DJ Charly Himmel spins between acts and into the technicolored evening, with light show by none other by B.A Miale…$7 cover, 7pm doors, first band at 8pm!

Robbers on High Street – a long running Brooklyn band that’s a good mix of post punk, trebbly garage and power pop headliens a gig and rock and roll bowling dive The Gutter in Williamsburg, along with the tremolo hugging Moto-Gators and  XL Kings… $5 cover, first band at 9pm.

Shakin’ All Over Under Sideways Down at Home Sweet Home is so cool, especially now that they’ve got a new AC…Jonathan Toubin is joined by Mark Sultan (King Khan and the BBQ, ,Les Sexareenos, Spacesh!ts, etc. etc.) on decks from 11pm till close for a lot of greasy r&b and garage rock record spinning! Pre-game in place for Motor City Happy Hour from 8pm till 11pm, with krazy drink specials and sounds by Tyler Wright…Free before 11, $5 entry to get into “Shakin” after 11pm…

Crystal Blu doesn’t need much persuading to bring you the best psych, surf, garage and soul at her monthly happy hour spin To Sir With Love at Beauty Bar (on 14th Street and 3rd Ave) …7pm till 11pm, no cover, and manicure/cocktail deals for the ladiez…

La La Linda presents A Midsummer Night’s Ding, this weekend’s edition of her weekly spin at The Ding Dong Lounge! Fairy dust, Shakespearean Intrigue and Beer Up The Wazoo, oh and her dreamy August-time selections of heady psych, garage, punk and deep soul! 10pm till close, no cover…

Find Lynn Von Pang this evening at Motor City where she’ll be dropping garage, rockabilly,  punk and glam rock all night long from 10pm till close, with Jukebox Jodi behind the stick doling out the liquid regret! No cover.

Saturday August 11th

It’s Hullabaloo time, ya’ll! The final edition of the summer is extra special sauce as this serves as the semi-official birthday party for the founders of both the party and this blog, Charles Gaskins and Shimmy! Get them extremely wasted, but not so much that they can’t keep a handle their shit, whatever that balance is. They’re spinning garage and R & B vinyl all night and between bands, so DO look out for my boys… Sultan Bathery is on the bill to make it night two of them weirding out the locals, along with new three piece surf rock band Chickenhawks and fuzzed out garage punks from upstate (Purchase NY), Stolen Girls, kicking it all off. This goes down at the only place that makes sense, Don Pedro, at 9pm…$7

It’s the 4th year of what’s become a true treat of Summer in NYC for us retro rockers, the Ponderosa Stomp at The Damrosch Band Shell at  Lincoln Center… this years edition is dedicated to real people power:  Soul Music of the 60′s and 70′s and it’s links to political activism. More justice than I can give about what’s going down this afternoon and Sunday can be read on the official site, with the closeout and highlight for this evening being a live performance by the legendary Otis Clay and the Platinum Band…The festivities begin at 5pm and are free…

Another Saturday night at one our fave haunts Lone Wolf: kicking off with Melbourne Austraila’s MNTTAB, a noisey electronic punk band that is, thankfully, closer to Suicide than anything remotely resembling dubstep, Ballroom, our very own garage punk beast trio Triple Hex and Degreaser. Our boy Drew Redmond spins his expensive trashy records between bands and all night…9pm show, $7 cover…

An early (well, early for Saturday) and wild show tonight at Brooklyn Bowl that’s as bad ass as anything could be on an August eve: from 8pm thrill to Liquor Store, Lansing Michigan garage rock 5 piece The People’s Temple and Natural Child! All for a mere $5 cover…

Josh Styles and Sophie Thunder will be doing all ’45 sets of glam rock, garage, R&B and soul from 10pm till close at Motor City this evening, with Claudia from BabyShakes serving the poisons! No cover…

Jumpy is back for his dance-a-thon Soul-A-Go-Go at Grand Victory! He takes over after the bands from about 11pm and spins non stop all rager soul and R&B with special guest Ol’ Stark! No cover!

Lastly at Idle Hands, DJ C’Mon presents The Saturday Evening Takeover, a night of indie, punk, garage and power pop music in the East Village. 10pm till close, no cover

Check back Sunday for Drew’s update!

Have  A Joy,

Captain Heartlock
