I know where it'll be warm. Maybe even hot...

The big event of the next few days
is a pretty easy call for once.

Sunday

The Brooklyn Record Riot is happening now at The Warsaw in Brooklyn until 8pm. $3 admission for all the records you can eat (as long as you're willing to pay for them first -- I recommend eating the kielbasa instead and just taking the records home). Noon - 8pm.

Later tonight is the big Brooklyn Psychfest (see flyer above) with Madam Robot, Philadelphia's Asteroid #4, Traveling Circle, La Otracina, Heavy Hands, and a bunch of bands we don't know personally. That'll be $8. Starts early-ish (7pm).

You can also catch Turbo Fruits at Mercury Lounge, but only if you already have tickets (it's sold out). A better bet to finish the evening is to head over to Union Pool and catch DJs Dave The Spazz and Andy Maltz spinning sounds of the 50s and 60s, soul, garage, oddities and rarities.

Monday

The Reverend Vince Anderson and his Love Choir bring their gospel and soul sounds to Union Pool once again. Starts at 11pm, no cover.

Tuesday

Over at Bruar Falls they're hosting a free garage rock show with The Hydes, The Anabolics, and Guitar Bomb. The show starts at 8pm (yeah, right). Of course, you can also check out DJs spinning Rock-n-Roll, 50's and 60's R'n'B, Soul, Funk, Garage Rock, Punk, and more. We call it Hot Dog!, and it's at Bar Matchless. Featuring a new later start time (10pm) and 2-for-1 drinks.

Huddle together to conserve heat (at the following locations)

The Runaway Suns (whose advice our Sun appears to be taking)
play a big show at Don Pedro on Saturday.

Friday

The 45 Adapters and The Gulf of Michigan anchor a night of punk rock at Trash Bar.

Tonight you can go out enjoy Barforama (the, uh, good kind) at K&M in Brooklyn. Dylan "Otto" Bahn and special guests DJ Captain Heartlock and Charles Gaskins bring the swingin'-est 60's sounds to K&M's dance "floor". No cover.

At Home Sweet Home in Manhattan (home of the ugliest MySpace page ever -- fix that folks!) it's time for Shakin' All Over Sideways Down, a DJ night in desperate need of an acronym*. DJ Jonathan Toubin is back in town and spinning from his collection of the finest Soul, Garage, Girl groups, New Orleans beat, Glam, Punk, Freakbeat, Rockabilly... you name it. And it's all free!

It's Devils Night this Friday the... 11th at The Diamond in Greenpoint. DJs Cowboy Mark, Miss Mary, and special guest Ron Like Hell host a "Funky Holiday Dance Party" at which they will probably diverge somewhat from their usual mix of Country, R&B and Garage Rock. There will also be a charity raffle. Also no cover.

Saturday

Coupla' shows on the menu for this evening. At Don Pedro, the home-away-from-home for the 99.9% of us who do not live there, a photography exhibit/psych rock extravaganza! Check out the photography of Keith Marlowe while listening to Eidetic Seeing, Madam Robot and the Lust Brigade, The Runaway Suns, Traveling Circle, The Hidden Ratio and DJ Alfreako (whose MySpace page looks awesome) between sets. A lot going on there. My fingers are all cramped up now.

Over at Shea Stadium (a new all-ages DIY venue on the Greenpoint/Bushwick border, not the actual stadium) crazies of all ages will converge when hard blues-rockers Woman and alt-pop-ers Pop 1280 hit the stage.

Sunday

Giants vs. Eagles, 8:15 on NBC. Game of the season. You got a problem with that?

Okay, seriously, the German Measles, Jaques Detergent and The Mad Scene play a Menorah lighting "for our Jewish and Gentile friends alike" (this is "seriously"?!) at Secret Project Robot. Starts early (4pm/sundown?). And as always, DJs Andy Maltz and/or Dave The Spazz are over at Union Pool.

* SAOSD doesn't cut it. Let's try rearranging a little... how about SODAS? SOSAD? Anything but DOASS, please.

Hooray for short week! In honor of the 4th of July (which is our nation's wedding anniversary or bat mitzvah or something) many of us have Friday off from work. We will celebrate our nation's history by getting bombed on a Thursday.

Also, according to our calendar there's nothing on Monday. Nada. Not even the usual thing at Public Assembly. I asked Captain Heartlock in person and he says they're not spinning Garage and Soul music this week, but may be back the future.
