We’re not sure what’s going on, but let’s put it this way: the weekend simply didn’t end when it was supposed to this time.  On this past Monday night there was a rager of such classic proportions at Don Pedro, half the attending crowd ‘forgot’ to go to work the next day.

The few who did, well, they regretted it!

We seem to be looking at a repeat as the action around town tonight looks a lot more fun that quite a few Saturdays we’ve seen pass by us in recent weeks.  So if you’re able-bodied, young (at heart) and possibly just a little stupid (it helps!), here’s your game plan:

Starting early, you’ll find New Jersey’s own Demands doing an outdoor set at the Groove on Grove series by the Grove Street PATH station in Jersey City.  It gets under way about 6PM and is free.

Later on, there’s three live choices:

- Black Market Bombshell, who have an agreeably punky sound, open a show at Local 269 Bar.  The band features Kymber Lee (ex-Jadewalkers) on drums and vocals. FREE

- Memphis’s Jack Oblivian shows up for another blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in NYC, this time doing his own country-tinged rock at Brooklyn’s Southpaw…  $10

- And, over at Otto’s Shrunken Head, it’s another After-After party for the Rebel Weekender featuring the Stompin Riff Raffs‘ last performance here in the US before their return to Japan, plus the more-than-able support of the Back CCs, Love-Struck and Siberians.  DJing provided by the Rebel Night DJs.  Doors supposedly at 7, I’d guess first band around 8:15.  Check out the photos from Monday night’s rager at Don Pedro by Jeff Cuyubamba here– can you resist the call? Monday

At 200 Orchard (I think that’s their website) in Manhattan it is time for a Glad All Over!!! party with The Rats, Des Roar, and DJ Charly Manson. And it’s free!!!

Over in Brooklyn, the Rev. Vince Anderson and His Love Choir continue their Monday evening residency at Union Pool. Starts at 11pm, also no cover, and what it lacks in exclamation points it will surely make up for in fervor.

Tuesday

Tonight’s special is… Hot Dog! (same special we had last week) at Bar Matchless. Featuring DJs spinning Rock-n-Roll, 50′s and 60′s R’n'B, Soul, Funk, Garage Rock, Punk, and pretty much whatever they want because they are unstoppable! No cover, 2-for-1 drinks all night, from 8 ’till late.

Wednesday

Not its usual week or its usual music, CopyCat hosts a night of Sesame Street covers (!!!) with bands Whooping Crane, Anna Copa Cabanna and the MG5, and Madame Robot and the Lust Brigade. With DJ Xerox and his clone (unconfirmed) DJ Larry Red spinning cover songs until bedtime. Plus: furry costumes, special cupcakes (no, not that kind), and even more surprises in store (just not from eating the cupcakes). The cover is not one of them: it’s free.

Wednesday night is DJ night in NYC. DJ Reverend Vince spins Soul, Gospel and R&B over at Savalas in Brooklyn. In Manhattan at Motor City Bar it is time for New York Night Train Wednesdays, where guest DJs play punk/rock/hard stuff all night. Then of course there’s Botanica where Mr. Fine Wine will spin his favorite Soul grooves. Hell, they even got two of ‘em at CopyCat. All of these DJ nights are free.

Thursday

One big show tonight: Jack Oblivian and The Tennessee Tearjerkers along with Mannequin Men at Bruar Falls. Free, but you must RSVP. Anyone else feel like they might just be going to this one? Yeah, me too.

TONIGHT (FRIDAY):

Kick off the weekend with longtime scenemaker Chandler and partner in crime Vignault at Lakeside Lounge during happy hour (6:30 to 8:00 or so). It’s free and full or great tunes.

Sticking with Manhattan, you could head to the Cake Shop afterwards for Imaginary Icons and Manikin. II’s first show in a while. $8

Or you could head over to Otto’s for another installment of ABC Rebel Night, a boppin’ set of rockabilly and early r’n'b to dance to. Free.

You could head a bit uptown to Hell’s Kitchen for the return of the Underthings with Born Loose at Bar Nine in Hell’s Kitchen (9th ave). We think this is a free show too.

Over at Home Sweet Home on Chrystie St, we expect Jonathan Toubin to be rockin’ his usual “Shakin’ All Over Sideways Down” night. Free this week?

Back over in Brooklyn, there’s still plenty to do…

At the “loft” at Public Assembly, it’s the second edition of the new Subway Soul Club with DJs Phast Phreddie and Ty Jesso. $6 cover but it’s got the exclusive club room vibe and is sure to be the real deal. Look for the door marked “70″ next to Music Hall of Williamsburg.

INSIDE Public Assembly (the main space), there’s a rock’n'roll show of the most explosive kind: Boston’s baroque roquers Upper Crust return and are more than ably supported by the excellent Othermen. $10 at the door.

Further down in Brooklyn you’ll find the Reigning Sound, the Swingin’ Neckbreakers, and the Jayvons at Southpaw for $12. You might try to cop tickets online as it could sell out at the door.

And over on 3rd ave, you’ll find the Brought Low at Hank’s Saloon doing the free show thing.

Let’s not forget the Garden State– if you’ve over in Jersey, check out the Doughboys & the Grip Weeds at the Record Collector in Bordentown, NJ. Early show should be fun.
